Berq – Rote Flaggen

For BERQ’s EP, we developed a photographic approach centred around reduced, understated portraits, balancing a stylized aesthetic with an intimate and authentic portrayal of the artist. Much like the accompanying films, our intention was to capture a simple emotion, allowing BERQ’s presence and vulnerability to speak for themselves. An essential element of the series was its tactile, organic quality. Shot on analog medium-format film using a Mamiya RZ67 II and our preferred Kodak film stock, the photographs embrace subtle grain, texture and the imperfections of the medium. Moving between black-and-white and colour portraits, we developed a restrained palette that complements the album artwork created by Valentin Hansen, bringing the different images together into a cohesive visual identity.
